about this tomb

The Tomb of Menna (TT 69) is an elaborately decorated New Kingdom burial chapel located in Sheikh Abd el‑Qurna within the Theban Necropolis on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor. It was built for Menna, an 18th Dynasty official who served as a scribe and overseer of agricultural fields for the pharaoh and the temple of Amun‑Re, and features remarkably well‑preserved wall paintings depicting both everyday life — especially detailed agricultural scenes — and funerary rituals aimed at ensuring a successful journey to the afterlife. The tomb’s T‑shaped layout includes a sunken courtyard, broad hall, long hall and central shrine, all adorned with vibrant scenes of offerings, family life and religious iconography, making it one of the most significant examples of elite tomb art in the Theban Necropolis.
